This is a fellowship post providing out-of-programme experience, with applicants required to have completed at least the primary FRCA examinations (or equivalent). The post is also well suited to post-CCT applicants, with experience, training and supervision tailored to help such doctors develop confidence and skills for the transition to a consultant career.

Successful applicants will have the opportunity to gain experience in the delivery of care throughout the surgical journey. This includes:

  • Objective risk assessment and shared decision making in preoperative assessment clinics
  • Multidisciplinary meetings and discussion to co-ordinate complex care
  • In-theatre anaesthetic management of high-risk surgical patients
  • Advanced post-operative analgesia and fluid management
  • Promotion and implementation of strategies to achieve the early milestones of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS)
