This is a fellowship post providing out-of-programme experience, with applicants required to have completed at least the primary FRCA examinations (or equivalent). The post is also well suited to post-CCT applicants, with experience, training and supervision tailored to help such doctors develop confidence and skills for the transition to a consultant career.
Successful applicants will have the opportunity to gain experience in the delivery of care throughout the surgical journey. This includes:
- Objective risk assessment and shared decision making in preoperative assessment clinics
- Multidisciplinary meetings and discussion to co-ordinate complex care
- In-theatre anaesthetic management of high-risk surgical patients
- Advanced post-operative analgesia and fluid management
- Promotion and implementation of strategies to achieve the early milestones of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS)
- Patient follow-up including recognition and management of post-operative complications
This clinical fellowship offers a unique opportunity to tailor high-risk anaesthesia and perioperative medicine experience, according to interests. The fellowship can be themed in one, or a combination of our tertiary/quaternary surgical services.
The fellowship also comes with £5000 funding towards a PGCert in Perioperative Medicine!
